Uptown GreenwoodWhat is a transfer student?

At Lander, an applicant is considered a transfer student if he or she has attended another post-secondary institution in any capacity after completion of high school, regardless of whether or not the student earned credit at that institution. Of our diverse population, approximately 300 students transfer to Lander each year. The majority of our transfer students come from community or technical colleges.

What are the transfer admission requirements?

To be considered for admission as a transfer student, you must be in good academic standing at the last college attended. You should also have completed 24 transferable hours of college work and earned at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average at that school. If you have less than 24 hours of transferable course work, the Admissions Committee will review your file based on your performance including high school GPA and SAT or ACT scores.

Transfer Checklist

For admission to the University from another institution, follow these simple checklists:

Students who have earned 24 semester hours of college-level credit:

  • complete a paper or online application
  • pay the $35 application fee
  • request official transcripts from all colleges attended
  • be academically eligible to return to all institutions previously attended
  • request official high school transcript (required for Financial Aid Office)

Students who have earned fewer than 24 semester hours of college-level credit:

  • complete a paper or online application
  • pay the $35 application fee
  • request official transcripts from all colleges attended
  • be academically eligible to return to all institutions previously attended
  • request official high school transcript
  • request official SAT or ACT scores

How are transfer credits evaluated?
Upon acceptance to Lander University, each college transcript will be evaluated. Once completed, the results will be posted to the student’s account, which will be available for viewing online via Bearcat Web.

A maximum of 64 semester hours of transfer work from regionally accredited community colleges may apply toward graduation requirements at Lander. For an individual course to be considered as transfer credit, a grade of “C” or better must be attained. No credit is awarded for developmental courses. It is important to note that even though a course may be acceptable as a transfer course, it may not be applicable to a specific Lander major, program or degree.
