    Lander University has received recognition as a "Tree Campus USA" for its commitment to incorporating tree plantings in its landscaping program. The designation by the national Arbor Day Foundation honors colleges and universities for promoting healthy trees, and engaging students and staff in the spirit of conservation.

    Lander University revived its tradition of beginning a new school year with an Opening Convocation on Monday, Sept. 9. Members of the faculty, garbed in academic regalia, paraded to seats in the Josephine B. Abney Cultural Center Auditorium for the formal assembly that was also attended by students.
  • Lander offers a new academic program

    Lander University has introduced a new degree program that will give students the flexibility to take courses from two or more fields of study to meet their career goals. The Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS) will enable Lander to provide an academic experience for students whose career interests fall outside of Lander's existing discipline-based programs.

    Lander University is preparing to actively promote its annual fund, emphasizing the importance of contributions to help the university deal with challenges stemming largely from steadily shrinking state financial support. The initiative will also enable Lander to increase scholarship assistance and spare graduates from having to face years of paying off student loans.

    Dr. Michael H. Murphy, assistant professor within the Department of Teacher Education at Lander University in Greenwood, South Carolina, has been selected for a Fulbright Specialists project in Phitsanulok, Thailand, at Naresuan University during October 2013, according to the United States Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.

  • Home Builders establish scholarship for engineering students at Lander

    Students in Lander University's dual engineering degree program will benefit from a scholarship established by the Lakelands Home Builders Association. Nick Nicholson, executive officer of the Association, said the scholarship is designed to provide financial help to students who would support the construction industry in South Carolina after graduation.
