    Lander University Professor of Sociology Dr. Daniel Harrison will spend the fall semester finishing Live at Jackson Station, his book about the well-known Greenwood area nightspot and its ill-fated proprietor, Gerald Jackson.

  • Strickland honored at annual luncheon as repeat scholarship winner

    For the second straight year, Lander University senior Lauren Strickland is the recipient of a $2,100 scholarship, funded annually by the Greenwood Woman’s Club. Strickland, a senior early childhood education major, was chosen for the scholarship by The Lander Foundation and recognized March 6 by GWC during its 10th annual fashion show and luncheon held in the Josephine B. Abney Cultural Center.

    Filmmakers of all ages and backgrounds are expected to enter their creative ideas in the 2WK Short Film Festival this spring as part of Lander University’s 9th film festival. If previous festivals are any indication, this year’s promises to be the most hotly contested yet, as participants vie for cash prizes, trophies and bragging rights.

    Lander University has unveiled a new initiative that will help deserving, talented students from the Lakelands region save thousands on the cost of attending the university. The District Scholars program is designed to provide significant scholarship assistance – ranging from $4,000 to $12,000, based upon GPA and SAT/ACT scores – to graduating seniors from Greenwood, Laurens, Edgefield, Abbeville, McCormick, Newberry and Saluda counties.

    17 Lander music education students took part in the annual South Carolina Music Educators Association (SCMEA) conference in Columbia, Feb. 15-17. All participants are members of the Lander student chapter of the National Association for Music Education.

  • Lander Students Help Capture Snapshot of Area Homelessness

    Stephanie Arrington, a Lander University junior Sociology major from Walhalla, formed a bond with homeless individuals while volunteering at a local soup kitchen on Sundays. Because of the relationships she developed, she jumped at the chance to help with the annual Point-in-Time homeless census in late January.
