  • Huge crowd expected for Lander commencement – early arrival is suggested

    More than 200 graduates are expected to cross the stage and receive their degrees on Dec. 16, 2017, during Lander University’s 156th commencement. The ceremony begins at 11 a.m. in Finis Horne Arena – and all guests entering the arena will be required to have a ticket.

  • Celebrating the season with Holiday Tree Lighting on Nov. 28

    Horse-drawn carriages, ice skating and musical performances to usher in the season at Lander University's Holiday Tree Lighting celebration on November 28 Lander University kicks off the holiday season when students return from Thanksgiving Break with a nostalgic themed Holiday Tree Lighting celebration. Festivities take place between 5 - 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 28 outside on Assembly Plaza and extend to the fountain on the front lawn of the Abney Cultural Center and the lawn of Chipley Hall.

    “Your gifts are needed now more than ever,” keynote speaker Walter Todd told scholarship donors at this year’s Eleanor Shiflet Teal Scholarship Banquet, held Oct. 26 at Lander University. Todd, president and chief investment officer for Greenwood Capital, which sponsored the event, said that college tuition in the U.S. has grown at a rate of nearly 200 percent over the past 20 years — almost four times the overall rate of inflation over the same period of time.

    Although Veterans Day is officially Nov. 11, Lander University will celebrate the holiday on Friday, Nov. 10, at 10 a.m. in the Josephine B. Abney Cultural Center Auditorium with a program honoring those who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

  • Art reception kicks off new exhibit by national artist

    A crowd of nearly 70 showed up on Oct. 16 at a reception to see drawer-artist Jillian Dickson debut a brand new exhibit at Lander University’s Monsanto Gallery. Dickson’s five-week exhibit, titled “The Collective Mine,” runs through Nov. 20 and is considered an artistic coup for Lander’s College of Arts & Humanities.
