Community Outreach

Lander is committed to building leaders for tomorrow. Inspired by this mission, our students are actively engaged on and off campus, enriching their university experience while being a force for positive change in our local, national and international communities.

Get Involved

Many of Lander’s numerous student clubs and groups incorporate community service and outreach into their organizations’ missions. One of the best ways to get involved in these efforts is through participation in student life. Discover the options available through the Office of Student Activities, and find a group that shares your personal and professional goals.

Explore Opportunities

The Greenwood community is home to a host of organizations focused on enhancing and improving the lives of our local citizenry. Opportunities abound for you to volunteer your time and energy. Need a place to start? Lander students, alumni, faculty and staff have developed strong working partnerships with multiple groups and agencies, including:

Greenwood Area Habitat for Humanity

This housing ministry seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. Lander has a student chapter of Habitat for Humanity on campus. See the chapter website or contact the Office of Student Activities for information on how you can join.

United Way of Greenwood and Abbeville Counties

This community stalwart addresses five areas of need identified as the most-pressing local social issues: education, health, achievement of young children, strengthening families and economic impact.

Humane Society of Greenwood

These animal-care professionals are the safety net for lost, abandoned or relinquished companion animals in Greenwood County.

Connie Maxwell Children’s Home

With a residential childcare ministry headquartered in Greenwood, S.C., Connie Maxwell provides hope for children and families dealing with difficult situations in their lives.
