one of the faculty members teaching courses in the Health Care Management emphasis here at Lander
University 's Department of Business.
The purpose of the Health Care Management emphasis is to integrate the fundamentals of business administration with a comprehensive knowledge of the health care delivery system. The emphasis is designed to enable qualified students to acquire the skills and knowledge to assume management positions within various settings of the health care delivery system.
Careers in Health Care Management
Health care is one of today’s most dynamic and growing fields with a wide range of opportunities and challenges on the horizon. You might select the more traditional path of hospital administration or choose other options, including positions in a managed care organization, long-term care facility, home health agency, physician group, consulting firm, health insurance company, federal and state agency or a health related job in the business or manufacturing setting.
According to statistics provided by the South Carolina Employment Security Commission, the number of “medical and health service managers” in the state has increased dramatically over the past 15 years. In South Carolina, health service organizations are growing at a rate of 23 %, which is above the state average of 14%. Currently there are about 3,000 medical and health service managers who average $59,000 a year.
