Office for Students with Disabilities

General Information

The Director of the Academic Success Center will coordinate the accommodations for students with disabilities at Lander University.  All accommodations are implemented according to ADA regulations. The Student Wellness Center of Lander University serves as the advisors for students with disabilities.  They are the point of initial contact for all students with disabilities.  The Student Wellness Center notifies the faculty of the appropriate accommodations, assures that students receive the necessary physical accommodations based on their medical condition, and stores all documentation relevant to students' disabilities.

Students with disabilities must contact:

The Student Wellness Center

Phone:  864-388-8885

e-mail: studentwellness@lander.edu

Placement Testing

Accommodations will be made for physically disabled students or those with certified learning disabilities.  Students requiring accommodations should call ahead so that arrangements may be made through the Academic Success Center (864)-388-8814 or (864)-388-8317

Course Substitutions

A specific learning disability can interfere with a student's successful completion of a course (e.g., foreign language and math courses).  Appropriate documentation from a psychologist that specifically addresses this issue is required.  Course substitutions cannot be permitted if the course is determined essential to a student's major.  See page 7 of the Students with Disabilities Handbook for more details about this accommodation (see link below).

Liaison with Faculty

The Lander University Student Wellness Center will communicate with faculty on behalf of the student to assure reasonable accommodations.  Permission from the student is required, therefore, students are urged to speak with Kitty Lewis at the beginning of each semester.  Last minute coursework and schedule changes result in late notification of faculty about student accommodations.  To avoid this problem, students should make certain that they contact Ms. Lewis with those changes.

A faculty/staff handbook from the Office of Students Disability Services is available through The Student Wellness Center.  The handbook is also located in all division offices. Click here for the PDF form of the Students with Disabilities Handbook (pdf).
