The Peer Tutoring Lab is designed to provide support and assistance to students enrolled in general education courses as well as those registered in courses needed to satisfy major requirements. The laboratory, therefore, serves as an effective resource by providing the opportunity for students to develop learning habits which will translate into a successful college career.
Also, the Peering Tutoring Lab is retention oriented, designed to retain students who tutor as well as those tutored. Peer Tutoring encourages students to seek help early in order to help improve their chances of success in a class in which they feel they will have a tough time. Research has shown that students who attend tutoring sessions are most likely to increase their grade in that class. Although students are encouraged to speak to their professors when they have questions, it is often comforting to know that a "peer" can also help clarify information.
