General Placement Test Instructions

**Print this page before clicking on the websites noted below**

BELOW ARE THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE MATH PLACEMENT TEST (regular test and Pre-cal).

All math testing (initial, pre-cal, or retest) should be completed as soon as possible after receiving an e-mail letter regarding the placement tests.

**YOU MUST DISABLE YOUR POPUP BLOCKER TO TAKE THIS TEST**

The Math Placement test you are about to take is to help you know if you are ready to take a college-level mathematics course at Lander.

The GOAL is to ASSESS your PRESENT ABILITIES.

We want you to succeed in your classes at Lander. Doing well on this test does not guarantee success in your first mathematics course, but doing poorly indicates that you probably need to brush up on your math skills before coming to campus OR during your first semester here.

The only way this Placement Test will do what it is designed to do is if you COMPLETE the test ON YOUR OWN, following the instructions given on this page.

REMEMBER:  We want you to succeed AND we will help you if you let us.

Looking forward to seeing you on campus,

Andre M. Lubecke, Chair

Department of Mathematics and Computing

To begin the Math Placement or Pre-cal Test:   NO CALCULATOR IS ALLOWED

Your temporary WebCT ID is the L# given to you in your deposit receipt letter from the Admissions Office with a lowercase "t" in front of the L#.  For example, if your L# is L09998877, your temporary WebCT ID is tL09998877.  The WebCT ID is case sensitive.

Your Password is simply your date of birth (mmddyy). If your date of birth password does not work , try 123456 as the password.  Only a few students should have this problem.

Click on “Math Placement Assessment”

Read the directions then click on the center quiz icon

Click on either “Math Placement Exam” or “ Precalculus Placement Exam Part I”

(Please recall that the Pre- Cal exam is ONLY necessary for students planning to take calculus. This includes ALL Mathematics and Chemistry majors, ALL students in any of the dual-engineering programs, SOME Computer Information System majors, and ALL students planning to complete a minor in mathematics or to use calculus to complete their General Education mathematics requirement.)

Each test is timed so please pace yourself.  After you submit your test for scoring you will get an immediate result.

If you need to retest for the general math test, you will be given a review that you can access.  After review you will be given a retest opportunity. Follow the same directions to take the retest.  You may retest on Pre-cal as well but must do so when you get to campus ----- see Gay Coleman, LC 340.
