Steps for Military Students

We've made it easy for students in the military to start or continue their education. If you are a new student wishing to enroll in a program or courses offered at Lander, just follow these two simple steps.

You may be eligible to receive college credits by submitting transcripts from your military training.  Here's how:

 

Army: In order to be considered for credit based on your military experience/training, you should request a copy of your AARTS transcript. 

 

You can download a personal copy straight from the web, or get the form to request an official copy.  If a you joined the military before Oct 1981, there will not be an AARTS transcript; however, a DD Form 295 can be completed instead.

Navy & Marine Corp:  In order to be considered for credit based on your military experience/training, you should request a copy of your SMART transcript. 

Navy:  Active Duty, Reserve and Veterans who have separated since January 1975.
Marine Corp:   Active Duty, Reserve and Veterans who have separated since January 1990

Air Force:  In order to be considered for credit based on your military experience/training, you should request a copy of your CCAF transcript.

In February 2004, military personnel became eligible to take CLEP exams without paying the exam fee ($50) at any of the college campuses that provide CLEP testing for the military. CLEP exams are funded by the military for members of the following groups:

  • Military personnel (Active Duty and Reserve) - Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, U.S. Coast Guard, Army Reserve, Air Force Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve, Navy Reserve, Coast Guard Reserve, Army and Air National Guard
  • Eligible civilian employees and spouses of participating Reserve Component and Coast Guard personnel
  • Department of Defense Acquisition Personnel (only eligible for the following computer-based exams: Principles of Macroeconomics, Principles of Microeconomics and Principles of Marketing)

 

Financial Aid:

VA students are welcome at Lander University.  These benefits are payable for certain participating veterans, disabled veterans, and dependents of deceased or disabled veterans (who died or became disabled as a result of their military service). If you wish to apply for VA benefits, you may do so by completing the Certification of Veterans Benefits form provided here for your convenience.
