Office of the President
President Daniel W. Ball
Welcome to Lander University!
As the 12th president of Lander, my role is to
further strengthen this institution with its rich history and tradition of providing educational
and cultural opportunities. Lander was founded in 1872 by the Rev. Samuel Lander as Williamston
Female College in Williamston, S.C. The college moved to Greenwood, S.C., in 1904 and was renamed
in honor of its founder.
Lander is now a coeducational, state-assisted university offering majors and minors in more than 60 areas of study. The tradition of student-centered learning that makes Lander unique today is the same student-centered learning that was at the heart of this institution when it was founded.
