What does PASSport stand for?

The Student Support Services (SSS) program, PASSport, is Lander University's federally funded TRiO program . TRiO has a long and distinguished history in the education community, having served the needs of first generation, low income, and disabled students since 1967. SSS functions under a four year grant provided by the U.S. Department of Education , and offers federally approved services to assist participants successfully navigate and graduate from college. Our top priority is to see our students succeed, both in college and afterwards.
To that end we offer an array of services: tutoring, mentoring, counseling services, academic advising, graduate school tours and information, assistance navigating financial aid and other university level programs and departments, cultural activities, workshops, and much more. Participants in our program NEVER pay for our services.
Admission to the program is selective and students wishing to apply must meet at least one of our mandatory criteria:

Have a documented disability (learning or other)

Be low income based on U.S. Department of Education standards (these vary) *

Be a first generation college student (neither parent graduated from a 4 year college before your 18th birthday)
* Federal low income levels vary widely from many state measures of low income. Traditionally, students who are eligible for Pell Grants meet U. S. Department of Education criteria for low income.
