The Peace Corps and requirements for those who might be considering joining will be explored during a presentation at Lander University on Thursday, Nov. 8, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Applications are being accepted for Lander University's fall continuing education courses that cover a wide landscape of interests and skills ranging from digital photography to small business and professional development. There is also a class for high school students looking to improve their scores on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).

As part of its summer program, Lander University's Office of Continuing Education has scheduled a 10-day program focusing on Lake Greenwood, studying how the lake and its watershed are profoundly affected by natural processes and human-induced changes.

Coordinator Shelley Grund said there are more than two dozen courses on the schedule, plus four small business development programs and classes to prepare high school students who are planning to take the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). Because of their popularity, some courses have limits on enrollment.

Lander University is accepting applications for the annual Fuji Summer Science and Mathematics Enrichment program for students in grades four through high school hosted by the university. The program, which begins in June, is sponsored by a grant from Fuji Photo Film in Greenwood and offers talented students a challenging educational experience with opportunities for fun and a taste of university life at Lander.

Applications are being accepted for a Chinese language course offered as part of Lander University's Continuing Education program. Conversational Chinese for Beginners will be taught by Wei Zhang, a visiting scholar from Shanghai Normal University in China, who is an intern in Lander's Office of Student Affairs.

Lander University's special six-part lecture series, "The Politics of Democracy: A Political Symposium," continues next month with sessions exploring topics relevant to our current national political scene.
