Nursing students Janet Goff and Rachel Griggs of Greenwood have been named recipients of the 2009 Greenwood County Medical Alliance nursing scholarships.
Goff enrolled in Lander University's online RN to BSN program in 2008 after graduating from Piedmont Technical College with an associate degree in nursing. She works in labor and delivery at Self Regional Healthcare where she conducts childbirth classes and provides holistic care to mothers and infants.
Goff is scheduled to graduate from Lander in May of next year. She plans to enter graduate school and obtain an advanced degree as a nurse midwife.
Rachel Griggs is a nursing student at Piedmont Technical College and will graduate with an associate degree in May. She is a graduate of Erskine College with a degree in biology and, while employed as a research technician at the Greenwood Genetic Center, she decided to change careers and enter nursing.
Griggs plans to continue her education and become a family nurse practitioner.
The Greenwood County Medical Alliance is a non-profit organization of physician spouses in Greenwood. The group works to improve the health and quality of life of residents by sponsoring programs and fundraisers benefiting the Free Clinic, Food Bank of Greenwood County, Healthy Learners and nursing scholarships.
