Lander University students took home the top prize in the second annual South Carolina Athletic Trainers' Association (SCATA) Quiz Bowl, which was held in March in conjunction with the SCATA College/University Workshop in Lexington.

Five three-member teams, representing athletic training programs from Lander, Erskine College, Charleston Southern University, the College of Charleston and the University of South Carolina, competed in the quiz bowl, which was modeled after the popular game show "Jeopardy!"

Lander was represented by junior Brandon Bowie of Greenwood and seniors Nora Pace of Clinton and Joseph McDevitt of Hilton Head. The teams were assessed on their knowledge of the six domains of athletic training: prevention; clinical evaluation and diagnosis; immediate care; treatment, rehabilitation and reconditioning; organization and administration; and professional responsibility.

With their win, the Lander quiz bowl team will next compete in May at the district level quiz bowl, which will be held in conjunction with the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Trainers' Association annual meeting in Virginia Beach, Va. They will compete against teams from South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C.

The winner of the district-level quiz bowl will move on to compete in the National Quiz Bowl, which will take place in June during the National Athletic Trainers' Association annual meeting in Philadelphia, Pa.
