    Lander University political science majors Conner Lewis and Christopher Ty Grogan, both from Greenwood, will be working in the offices of two members of South Carolina’s congressional delegation this fall. They were selected for Washington Semester Internships sponsored by the University of South Carolina Honors College in Columbia.

  • Cassie Biron chooses a Peace Corps assignment in Africa

    Lander University graduate Cassie Biron of Greenwood did a lot of traveling as a member of a military family, and she will soon be on the road again to a new destination as a Peace Corps volunteer. Biron is headed for the Kingdom of Lesotho, a landlocked enclave tucked within the borders of South Africa. It is a poor nation whose per capita income is below the international poverty level. Its inhabitants have a life expectancy of 40 years with an HIV/AIDS rate of more than 23 percent.

    More than 50 Lander University students were honored recently for their scholastic accomplishments during the 2010-2011 academic year, receiving the top discipline and special awards from the university's four academic colleges.   • Lander students inducted into Alpha Chi to recognize outstanding academic achievement

    Family and friends gathered at Lander University on April 20 to witness the spring induction of 44 students into Lander’s Alpha Chi National College Honor Scholarship Society. Dr. John Moore, associate professor of philosophy and the chapter coordinator, said the inductees are juniors or seniors in the top 10 percent of their class

  • University Releases Spring Magazine

    The Lander Magazine is a publication distributed primarily to alumni, donors and friends of the university to inform them of recent Lander activities and the accomplishments of faculty, staff, students and alumni. Started in 1972, the magazine is produced with diligent consideration by the Office of University Relations two times each year, with issues in spring and fall.

  • Duncan to address graduates at Lander spring commencement

    Congressman Jeff Duncan (R-South Carolina) will deliver the main address to approximately 280 degree candidates at Lander University’s spring commencement on Saturday, April 30, in the university’s Finis Horne Arena. The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. Duncan was elected from the Third District last November becoming the first South Carolinian elected to Congress from Laurens County since George Washington Shell 114 years ago.

  • New Asia Initiative

    Dr. Sung-Jae Park, recently retired from an international program leadership position at Ball State University, is now leading an Asia initiative for Lander University. He will develop strategies that will encourage students from Japan, Korea, China, and India to study at Lander for one or two years as a part of their degree programs. Dr. Park will also create some additional study abroad opportunities in Asia for Lander students.
