Chair's Message

Dear musicians,
Music Department FacultyIf music is always on your mind, then Lander is the logical university for you! My music colleagues and I believe that our job is to offer you the best education possible and to assist you in becoming a productive member of society. A personal approach within a professional environment is the key to Lander's success as a small university rooted in the liberal arts. The university's namesake, the Reverend Samuel Lander, was intent on enrolling students who were prepared to become well-rounded individuals. Such a tradition continues to this day.

The Lander music faculty is an elite group of experienced musicians and scholars. But you can be sure that our studio doors are open and waiting for curious student musicians to enter. Whether you have eagerly arrived for an applied lesson or are in need of answers to some of life's toughest questions, our faculty is interested in meeting your needs, not only as a budding musician, but even more importantly as a maturing human being.

Surveyed music alumni gave the following reasons for recommending Lander to prospective students: great facility; friendly, family-like atmosphere; small student-teacher ratio; personalized attention; capable instructors; variety of ensembles; and well-rounded education. Lander alumni are obviously satisfied with the musical training they have received in preparation for graduate study, for teaching, and for careers in the music field. We think that you will be too.

Your academic life here will be stimulating and challenging. Your social life will be fun-filled and rewarding. Music is, indeed, the language of Lander. Sing it. Play it. Learn it. Live it!

Cordially,
