Department of Music
You are a musician.
Music is your passion and your vehicle for self-expression. You are discovering your talent and are working diligently to develop your musical skills.
Lander’s music program offers the individual attention necessary to help you achieve your goals. Our music curriculum is designed to heighten your musical awareness and to cultivate your appreciation for the broadest possible spectrum of music. You will study the works of master musicians from all stylistic periods. You will be given the opportunity to perform as a soloist and as a member of one of our preeminent ensembles.
You will work closely with experienced and nationally recognized faculty, all of whom are more than just skilled educators. They are also performing musicians and scholars. Lander’s music faculty includes pianists who have performed for audiences around the world, instrumentalists who have appeared with critically acclaimed bands and symphonies, conductors who have premiered works on artist recordings, and vocalists who have sung in professional choirs, opera, and musical theatre companies.
The Department of Music is housed in the university’s Josephine B. Abney Cultural Center, a complex which includes a state-of-the-art 680-seat auditorium, a 100-seat Barksdale Recital Hall, and instrumental and choral rehearsal halls. Facilities also include a digital piano and computer lab, an ever-growing music library, well-equipped practice rooms, chamber rehearsal spaces, and smart classrooms.
