Lander Dancers Fall 2011 Concert Dec. 5 and 6

Lander DancersThe stage is set for the Lander Dance Company's Fall 2011 Concert, which will feature several dance numbers, including one inspired by the much-loved holiday classic, "The Nutcracker."

The performances will take place Monday, Dec. 5, and Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 8 p.m. in the Josephine B. Abney Cultural Center. The concert is free and open to the public.

Under the direction of 1990 Lander graduate and adjunct instructor of dance Joey Giles, the Lander Dance Company has been working hard to prepare for the upcoming concert, which will include "Big Brother is Watching," choreographed by Giles; "For You," choreographed by Kellie Daugherty, a sophomore mass communications major and dance minor from Columbia; "Social Networking," choreographed by Giles; "From Type to Type," choreographed by Nik Blocker, a sophomore theatre major and musical theatre minor from Ninety Six; and "Our Very Own Nutcracker," choreographed by Della Cowall, Lander's full-time dance professor.

"Our Very Own Nutcracker" will feature three short pieces from "The Nutcracker," the beloved ballet in which a toy nutcracker comes to life in the dreams of a little girl on Christmas Eve. Music for the number will be provided by Amy Blackwood and Jessica Tenney, both on violin.

Lander Dance Company members are: Nik Blocker; Kellie Daugherty; Tillry Briggs, a junior mass communication major and psychology minor from Columbia; Ashlynne Brownlee, a sophomore business management major from Greenwood; Kelsey Calhoun, a freshman sociology major from Hampton; Tiffney Cooper, a sophomore mass communication major and dance minor from West Columbia; Hakeem Drayton, a sophomore sociology major and dance minor from Sumter; Bryanna Dyches, a sophomore early childhood education major from Williston; Damion (Lavon) Malachi, a sophomore elementary education major and dance minor from Bennettsville; Megan McDonnough, a sophomore psychology and Spanish major from Rock Hill; Tiffany McLean, a sophomore nursing major from Hopkins; Brittney Miller, a sophomore psychology major Rock Hill; Kristine Nash, a freshman from Orangeburg; Paige Railey, a sophomore nursing major from Columbia; Susanne Ratchford, a junior chemistry major from Anderson; Courtney Robinson, a freshman nursing major from Columbia; Rebecca Simmons, a sophomore sociology major from Hampton; Ashley Symmes, a sophomore biology major from Greenwood; and Kirsten Vaeth, a sophomore nursing major from Rock Hill.
