  • Keaton-Lima Publishes 'War Is Not Just for Heroes'

    U.S. Marine Corps combat correspondent Claude R. "Red" Canup wasn't required to keep personal copies of the dispatches he sent out while covering the war in the Pacific, during World War II. He did so, however, and "War Is Not Just for Heroes," edited by his daughter, 1970 Lander College graduate Dr. Linda M. Canup Keaton-Lima, is the result.

  • Lander graphic design students obtain real world experiences as part of their learning process

    Students in Jim Slagle's upper-level graphic design classes at Lander University get to put their classroom training into practice by working on projects for clients beyond the campus. Slagle is an assistant professor of art at Lander.

  • Kappa Sigma 'Adopt-a-Highway' Cleanup

    A group of Lander University students who are members of Kappa Sigma Fraternity spent Fridays in January cleaning a stretch of Highway 72 in Greenwood, between Bojangles and Starbucks, as part of an Adopt-a-Highway community service project.

  • Student Academic Showcase planned for March 7-8

    Lander University's Second Annual Student Academic Showcase will spotlight excellence in research and creativity during presentations and judging on Wednesday, March 7, and an awards ceremony on Thursday, March 8, at 7:30 p.m. Co-sponsored by Lander's College of Arts and Humanities and Alpha Chi International Honor Society, the showcase will include examples of student scholarship and creativity from the five departments of the College of Arts and Humanities (Art, English and Foreign Languages, History and Philosophy, Mass Communication and Theatre, and Music) as well as from the Social Sciences, the Sciences, Computer Information Systems and Mathematics.

  • Lander University Hosts S.C. Scholastic Art Awards

    Middle and high school students and teachers from across South Carolina converged on Lander University Jan. 21 for the presentation of the 2012 Scholastic Art Awards, an event which Lander has hosted for more than 20 years. There were nearly a thousand entries, in categories such as painting, sculpture, printmaking and photography, and 204 were chosen for display in Lander's Monsanto Gallery, where they can be seen through Feb. 3.

  • Lander observes 'Study Abroad Week'

    The week of Jan. 30 - Feb. 3 is Study Abroad Week at Lander University and throughout the week students will have opportunities to learn more about Lander's international programs and talk with others who have studied at foreign universities.   • Hammond Receives Prestigious Award

    Ali Hammond, of Saluda, a student in the Lander University Master of Arts in Teaching art education program, was recently awarded the Liz Smith-Cox Scholarship -- which supports the development of aspiring art educators -- by the South Carolina Art Education Association.

  • Lander MAT Students Make 'Soundsuits'

    Master of Arts in Teaching students at Lander University model the "soundsuits" they created for assistant professor of art Doug McAbee. The students were given the problem of creating a suit or an article of clothing that would create sound when worn.
