The public is invited to a reception for the Senior Art Exhibition, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 29, at Monsanto Gallery, in the Josephine B. Abney Cultural Center, on the campus of Lander University.
The exhibition, titled “tag,” will feature the work of 11 senior visual arts majors in various media, including printmaking, painting, drawing, photography, sculpture and graphic design.
Senior Emily Berry of Greenwood explained the show’s title by saying that she and the other seniors “were interested in the way that someone ‘tags’ a building, for example, with graffiti. They have left their mark, and that’s what we wanted to do. We are graduating, and this show is our mark.”
Senior Cate Blackwell of Greer echoed Berry, saying that she and her classmates are “‘tagging’” Lander University and preparing to utilize the knowledge we’ve gained here to further our artwork and careers.”
Lander assistant professor of art Jennifer Stoneking-Stewart, who taught all 11 seniors in her 499 Art Issues class, and who organized the show, said the artists “will be highlighting their strongest and most cohesive work.”
She encouraged arts enthusiasts to come out and “see the next generation of young artists, educators and designers.”
