Lander University Continues Tradition of Hosting S.C. Scholastic Art Awards
January 28, 2013
Middle and high school students and teachers from across South Carolina gathered at Lander University Jan. 19 for the presentation of the 2013 Scholastic Art Awards, an event which Lander has hosted for more than 20 years. There were 1,196 entries, in categories such as painting, sculpture, ceramics and glass, printmaking, photography and graphic design, and 174 were chosen for display in Lander's Monsanto Gallery, where they can be seen through Feb. 2. Earning American Vision, or best-in-show awards, were, from left: Albert Owens, representing the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities in Greenville; Brennan Booker, representing Columbia's Spring Valley High School; Kendra Foster, representing Woodruff High School; Sophia Skelly, representing Columbia's Ridge View High School; and Kimberly Chambers, representing the Fine Arts Center of Greenville. The five American Vision award-winning works will go on to compete in the National Scholastic Art Awards competition in New York. Monsanto Gallery director Eve Walling-Wohlford thanked Lander graduate and benefactor Linda Dolny for her longtime support of the event.
