Physical Education & Exercise Science

You have a passion for activity and fitness and you want to use it to encourage individuals and communities to live healthy, active lives.

You want to help people prevent injuries and become competent movers. You want to develop an understanding of the biological and physiological changes that occur during activity.

Getting Involved

The Physical Education and Exercise Science (PEES) Club offers all majors opportunities to participate in service projects including the Bearcat Breakout 5k and 1k, the Greenwood Miracle League, Activate Greenwood, Special Olympics and Senior Olympics. Students also have opportunities to hear professionals in respective fields and to collaborate with professors on research projects conducted at Lander and other institutions.

PEES majors can also get involved with national, regional and state organizations, such as:

  • SHAPE America – Society of Health and Physical Educators
  • ACSM - American College of Sports Medicine
  • NSCA – National Strength and Conditioning Association
  • ASBMR - American Society for Bone and Mineral Research
  • NATA - National Athletic Trainers Association
  • SCAHPERD - South Carolina Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance

 

Department Awards

Awards are granted annually to outstanding university students from all disciplines during a ceremony each spring.

  • Exercise Studies Discipline Award 
    Given annually by the physical education and exercise studies faculty to an outstanding graduating senior majoring in exercise studies based on excellent academic accomplishments as indicated by the cumulative grade point average and an involvement in the major.
  • Excellence in Exercise Science Award 
    Given annually by the physical education and exercise studies faculty to the graduating senior majoring in exercise science who best exemplifies academic achievement, moral character, leadership, and service activities for the department.

  • Physical Education Discipline Award 
    Given annually by the physical education and exercise studies faculty to an outstanding graduating senior majoring in physical education based on excellent academic accomplishments as indicated by the cumulative grade point average and an involvement in the major.
