Lander University has said goodbye to longtime friend and benefactor Marion Pinckney Carnell, the retired South Carolina legislator from Ware Shoals who is credited with playing a leading role in the university's growth and its enhanced statewide reputation. Carnell died on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22, at the age of 84.

Students from 14 colleges, including Lander University, gathered in Columbia recently to participate in the South Carolina Student Legislature (SCSL), an exercise that mirrored the work of the General Assembly. The students actually occupied the House and Senate chambers where they took part in sometimes spirited debate on a range of proposed legislation.

Randy Bouknight, standing right, Lander University's vice president for Student Affairs, hosted a meeting of his staff with a visiting delegation from Shanghai Normal University in China, one of Lander's 11 sister institutions in Asia.
