But Ferguson is excited about the show she has booked as a replacement. It's called "Ballroom with a Twist," a new production featuring a large cast of professional dancers from "Dancing with the Stars" and "So You Think You Can Dance," directed by Louis vanAmstel.
Davis & Floyd of Greenwood is the exclusive sponsor of the performance.
The show's promotional material describes "Ballroom" as "an extravagant evening of entertainment for the entire family, highlighted by stunning costumes, magnificent music and breathtaking performances."
Stars of the show include Anna Trebunskaya and Jonathan Roberts. Trebunskaya, an eight-year veteran of "Dancing with the Stars," has partnered with football star Jerry Rice, actor Steve Guttenberg, boxer Sugar Ray Leonard and others. Roberts has been on the show for seven years, and among the celebrities he has danced with are entertainer Marie Osmond, tennis pro Monica Seles and singer Belinda Carlisle.
Ferguson has scheduled "Ballroom with a Twist" for Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at 7:30 p.m., in Lander's Josephine B. Abney Cultural Center Auditorium. Tickets are on sale for $45.
The GLPA season begins on Monday, Oct. 8, with a performance by bluegrass music stars Dailey and Vincent. They will be followed on Nov. 19 by the a capella group Ball in the House. On Feb. 7, 2013, singer Franc D'Ambrosio will appear. He is the longest running star of the Broadway hit "Phantom of the Opera," who played the opera-singer son of Al Pacino's character in the movie "Godfather III."
GLPA will conclude its season on March 5 with Gilbert and Sullivan's "Pirates of Penzance."
Ferguson said sponsorships are still available for all shows except "Ballroom with a Twist," She added that sponsors receive name recognition, a full page ad in the playbill and a minimum of 10 tickets to the performance.
Season passes to all five shows are on sale for $165 each; $150 for seniors; and $140 for those 18 and younger. Season passes, tickets for individual performances and sponsorship and advertising information may be obtained by calling Greenwood Lander Performing Arts at 864-388-8326.
