More than 50 Lander University students were honored recently for their scholastic accomplishments during the 2011-2012 academic year, receiving the top discipline and special awards from the university's four academic colleges. More than 50 Lander University students were honored recently for their scholastic accomplishments during the 2011-2012 academic year, receiving the top discipline and special awards from the university's four academic colleges. Lander University has extended its perfect record for placing students in the Washington, D.C. Semester Internship Program of the University of South Carolina Honors College. Another two Lander students have been accepted, bringing to seven the number who have applied and been selected.

Three Lander University students finished at the top of the pack in this year's "Biggest Loser" competition losing a combined total of 78 pounds, or about a third of their body weight. The contest was sponsored by Lander's Student Wellness Center.

She walked into the classroom, placed her hands on her hips, and told students in a Lander University teacher education class, "Sit up, and get ready to work."

Shelby Lynn Dominick and Trent Kline joined the Lander University staff recently and they both view their positions as presenting opportunities to make students more aware of the many activities they supervise on campus and persuade them to become involved.

Lander University has received a $100,000 gift from the estate of a Greenwood man to create a scholarship fund primarily benefiting students majoring in business and nursing.

Lander University's third annual "Day Without Shoes," sponsored by the Department of Nursing, was a big success, with nearly half the university's 200 nursing students taking part.

U.S. Marine Corps combat correspondent Claude R. "Red" Canup wasn't required to keep personal copies of the dispatches he sent out while covering the war in the Pacific, during World War II. He did so, however, and "War Is Not Just for Heroes," edited by his daughter, 1970 Lander College graduate Dr. Linda M. Canup Keaton-Lima, is the result.
