Andrew La Croix of Spartanburg, who graduated from Lander University in April with a B.S. in chemistry, recently learned that he has been selected by the S.C. Space Grant Consortium to receive a $5,000 grant.

In the spring, Lander University's Physical Education and Exercise Studies (PEES) Club, hosted its first Bearcat Breakout 5K. The race is intended to be an annual event that promotes the health and fitness of the community by adopting an active lifestyle.

Students from the University of Incheon in South Korea are spending five weeks soaking up knowledge about the U. S. at the first American Language and Culture Institute sponsored by Lander University's Office of International Programs.

Eleven names will be added to the growing list of Lander University students who are accepted into the university's Study Abroad program. Dr. DeWitt Stone Jr., director of the program, said more than 100 Lander students have enrolled in a college or university abroad for a semester or a summer study term since he became director in 2005.

A change in Lander University's senior administrative ranks will go into effect on July 1 when Dr. Danny McKenzie relinquishes his position as vice president for academic affairs and provost so that he can return to his former faculty position in the university's College of Education.

The Monsanto Gallery at Lander University is featuring an exhibit by four 2012 graduates of the university's Master in Arts Teaching program.

Lander University associate professor of biology T.D. Maze points to DNA extracted from the cheek cells of Noah Rueda as the middle school student looks on. Rueda was a participant in Maze's forensics camp, one of the Fuji summer science and math enrichment programs that Lander offers each year for the benefit of students in grades four through 12.

Lander University graduate Lt. Col. Warren Bacote was honored at a change of command ceremony on June 12 at Fort Devens, Mass., where he served as garrison commander for nearly five years. He has been reassigned to the Air War College (AWC) at Maxwell A.F.B., in Montgomery, Ala., where he will be one of 26 U.S. Army representatives in the college's class of 2013.

Tuition at Lander University will increase by 3.15 percent for the 2012-2013 academic year. The increase, which is smaller than last year's 3.95 percent tuition hike, includes a $100 increase in fees which Lander's Board of Trustees approved last December for debt service on university construction and renovation projects.
