Members of the Greenwood Lander Performing Arts (GLPA) board of directors gathered at Lander on May 6 for the organization's annual meeting.

Students who believe it's possible to take a sculpture course from Doug McAbee without developing an interest in the subject don't have a hope.

Lander University has appointed Gary McCombs, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., the university's new vice president for business and administration effective June 3.

Would-be scientists among middle school and high school students in the Lakelands region will be able to try their hands at crime fighting, exploring microorganisms, chemistry, physics and more when Lander University hosts the annual Fuji Summer Science and Mathematics Enrichment program starting in June.

Two members of Lander University's equestrian team came home winners after competing in the 40th Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) finals, May 2-5. Emma Wolfe and Jennifer Lovvorn were among an estimated 400 riders from across the country who qualified for the championship events held at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, Pa.

Lander University's Bearcat therapeutic riding program held its annual horse show recently, an event that drew 18 riders and a large cheering section made up of family and friends who came out to show their support.

Lander University president Daniel Ball addresses retired members of the university's faculty and staff at the recent retirees brunch, which he hosts each year. Ball used the occasion to bring them up to date on new university initiatives and plans for the future. The brunch is also an opportunity for the retirees to meet and chat with former Lander colleagues.

People who have raised or grown up around horses agree that they can be good teachers who offer humans valuable lessons about life and everyday living. Students in a special education class at Emerald High School in Greenwood are finding that out firsthand at Lander University's Equestrian Center, where their interaction with horses is helping them improve their life skills.

The bug sculptures created by students in Lander University assistant professor of art Doug McAbee's advanced sculpture class have been installed at the Lander Art Corner, at the intersection of Edgefield Street and Maxwell Avenue, in Uptown Greenwood. McAbee, who said the assignment allowed his students to "stretch their abilities as public sculptors," added that he was "pleased with the skills the students were able to demonstrate."

Lander University held a farewell dinner recently for a group of educators from Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon in Bangkok, Thailand, who left for home after completing a one-month American Language and Cultural Studies institute created by Lander's Office of International Programs. Rajamangala is one of Lander's 11 sister schools in Asia.
