Lander University will hold its annual Bearcat Fan Day in Uptown Greenwood on Thursday, June 20, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The festivities will take place in the shadow of the university's 11-foot tall Bearcat topiary near Countybank Plaza.

Three Lander University graduates in the fields of business and law are this year's winners of the Lander Alumni Association's top awards.

Nancy Anderson Self, a 1934 Lander University graduate, celebrated her 100th birthday on Nov. 8, but, despite having reached her centennial year, she is still a "kid" sister.

Andrew La Croix of Spartanburg, who graduated from Lander University in April with a B.S. in chemistry, recently learned that he has been selected by the S.C. Space Grant Consortium to receive a $5,000 grant.

Lander University graduate Lt. Col. Warren Bacote was honored at a change of command ceremony on June 12 at Fort Devens, Mass., where he served as garrison commander for nearly five years. He has been reassigned to the Air War College (AWC) at Maxwell A.F.B., in Montgomery, Ala., where he will be one of 26 U.S. Army representatives in the college's class of 2013.

Area residents are invited to join Lander University faculty, staff, students and alumni for Lander Bearcat Topiary Team Fan Day on Thursday, June 7, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

In the waning days of the Confederacy, President Jefferson Davis issued an order that the South's gold reserve be moved to a new, safe location, to keep it from falling into Yankee hands. Instead, somewhere between Abbeville, SC and Washington, Ga., it disappeared.

Lander University alumni and friends are invited to gather at the State House in Columbia on Thursday, March 29, for a Legislative Day program hosted by the university's Alumni Association. Current Lander students and members of the faculty and staff are also invited to attend.

The first female general officer in the history of the South Carolina Army National Guard (SCANG); last year's winner of the state's Young Lawyer of the Year award; and the individual whose name adorns Lander University's new sports complex are this year's winners of the Lander Alumni Association's top awards.

An important part of Lander University's homecoming week celebration will occur on Friday, Feb. 3, with the dedication of the Stephen B. Dolny Baseball Stadium on the grounds of the university's Jeff May Complex on Montague Avenue. The dedication will be held almost five years to the day after Dolny's death from cancer at age 72.
