Workshop Descriptions:
Bearcat Computer Essentials: Common Questions, Tips and Tricks for Using Computer Resources at Lander University: This informative workshop will explore some of the technology resources available to students at Lander University including an introduction to special equipment like flatbed scanners, the large format printer, and dual screen workstations. Also covered will be the basics of keeping your laptop updated and secure, installing software, printing to campus printers from your laptop, Blackboard hints, and using resources and online services such as DropBox to make your life easier. Bring your questions!
Mac Essentials: An Introduction to Mac for Windows Users: This workshop presents a basic introduction to using Mac computers and navigating the Mac OS for Windows Users. Topics to be covered include navigating the Mac Desktop, using the Finder, locating programs installed on the Mac, manipulating the window on the Mac, creating shortcuts, accessing external storage devices, printing from the Mac, and using common Mac keyboard shortcuts.
Cyber Security Essentials: Tips, Tricks and Treats to Keep You Safe Online: Did you know that October is Cyber Security Awareness Month? This workshop will cover some basic topics related to online safety including how to know if a website is secure (and what does that mean anyway?), how PayPal and other secure payment services work, how to adjust your privacy settings on Facebook and why you might want to, recognizing phishing scams and other suspicious online activity, choosing a secure password, and tips for taking responsibility for your online identity.
