Java Security Alert

1/16/2013:  Java Security Update

An email notice was sent out to Lander students, faculty, and staff alerting users to a recently discovered security flaw in Java 7 that could potentially allow malicious software to be installed, thus increasing the chance of identity theft or the disabling of entire networks.  In response to this threat, Java has issued an update that counters this vulnerability.

Faculty and Staff should follow the instructions contained within the campus-wide email for securing university-owned computers.  We also advise faculty and staff to update Java on your personal and home computer systems as well using the instructions provided for students below.

Lander University’s Information Technology Services Department strongly recommends that all students update Java on their computers immediately. To update Java, visit the Java website here: If you click on the Free Java Download button, the website will automatically suggest the appropriate Java version for your computer and operating system.

Students that need assistance updating Java on your laptop, can stop by TRACS (The Technology Resource Assistance Center for Students) between 8:00am and 5:00pm Monday – Friday.
