Lander joins annual SC Festival of Flowers celebration

Starting June 2, the 45th annual South Carolina Festival of Flowers will kick off another year of fun and exciting activities that will extend through the  month of June. Among the events are several activities hosted by or held at Lander University.

Lander Bearcat Topiary Team Fan Day

Thursday, June 7, 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.

The event will be held in Uptown Greenwood, between Countybank and the former Inn on the Square, and will feature music, games, face-painting, tattooing and other activities for children, as well as door prizes and refreshments. Youngsters can have their photos taken with the official Lander Bearcat mascot, and participants can meet with Lander athletes, cheerleaders, coaches and administrators, including Lander President Dr. Daniel Ball.

Horse Show

Saturday-Sunday, June 9-10

Saturday: Western classes at 9 a.m., speed events at 6 p.m.
Sunday: English classes at 8 a.m.

Saturday morning Lander will host the Western classes where riders will compete in many precision disciplines of the competitive show including horsemanship, showmanship and pleasure. Saturday night's speed events will include the fast excitement of barrel racing, pole bending and the arena and stake race. Come cheer on our fast riders. The events are free and open to spectators. Vendors will be on site selling items including food and drinks, horse apparel, gifts and more.

Greenwood Festival Chorale Performance

An evening of waltzes, British humor in Gilbert and Sullivan's HMS Pinafore and Pirates of Penzance, and familiar choruses from Carmen and other operas (in English). Plus good old American tunes for "All Our Friends." The program will bring to stage outstanding ballroom dancers.

Garden Party Concert

A1A brings to life a highly energetic, colorful, family friendly Jimmy Buffett Tribute Show. When attending or booking an A1A performance you can expect to hear all of your Jimmy Buffett favorites and then some. You will also be treated to some classic Reggae as well as some original A1A Trop Rock music. Getting the party started 80′s style will be Retro Vertigo! They are the upstate SC's only 80′s band that can be seen live tearing it up!

Concessions: Beverages, Food, Cash Bar with Beer & Wine - ID's will be checked and you must be 21 or older to drink alcohol. Wristbands required.

5k Run & 1 Mile Fun Run & Walk

The run will start out from the soccer field then go onto the Capsugel track and then out to the Greenwood Heritage Trail and back. One mile walk and run and kids run starts and finishes within the Jeff May Sports Complex. First 125 registrants guaranteed a T-shirt. For registration details visit the festival website.
