Lander Equestrian Team
Saddle up for adventure!
Founded in 2000, the Lander University Equestrian Team is open to all students regardless of academic major or horsemanship experience. Team members range from those with little to no riding experience, to those who have competed on regional and national levels. Each member is placed into classes according to their experience level.
Being involved on the Equestrian Team not only greatly improves your riding skills, it also makes you a better horseperson overall. Team members can choose from two levels of participation: Club and Show Team.
Club Members pay $50 in dues per semester and assist with hosting home events, participate in team workouts, meetings, fundraisers, assist with basic horse care assignments, audit clinics, and other club activities. The Club is a perfect fit for those who are unsure of how much time they can commit but would like to be a part of the organization, learn more about horses, and have opportunities to work with the University’s Therapeutic Riding Program.
Show Team Members pay $500 in dues per semester to be a part of the Hunt Seat and or Western Competition Team. Members receive two (2) mounted lessons per week, attend two (2) team workouts per week, and participate in team meetings, fundraisers, assist with basic horse care assignments, participate in on site clinics taught by outside instructors, and other team activities. Show Team members also have minimal IHSA National Dues ($30 for one discipline and $40 for both disciplines, annually). Team members who compete on the Hunt Seat Team must also hold a current membership with the United States Hunter Jumper Association (USHJA) for each year they compete in the IHSA. Students must also provide their clothes for lessons as well as competitions.
