Lander Equestrian Center
The Lander University Equestrian Center is the first university-based equestrian facility in South Carolina to offer academic, therapeutic and sporting opportunities for students and community members. The Equestrian Center is a unique partnership between the university, The Lander Foundation and Burton Center, a nonprofit, governmental agency providing services for people with disabilities and special needs.
The 37-acre facility, located on the campus of Burton Center in Greenwood, houses the Bearcat Therapeutic Riding Program and serves as the home base for the university’s Equestrian Team. The center also serves as a dynamic learning environment for equine-related academic opportunities within Lander’s Therapeutic Horsemanship minor.
The Lander University Equestrian Center features a 300’ x 150’ arena that is being covered with anticipated completion during the Fall 2012 semester. The center also has 26 stalls, 20+ acres of pasture, 190’ x 140’ outdoor arena, jumps, classroom, and office space. More facilities are planned for the next phase of construction including a therapeutic riding complex, additional stall barn, and round pen.
