Lander University's Third Annual Student Academic Showcase will spotlight excellence in research and creativity during presentations and judging Monday, March 18, through Wednesday, March 20, and an awards ceremony on Thursday, March 21, at 7:30 p.m.

Co-sponsored by Lander's Office of Academic Affairs and Alpha Chi International Honor Society, the showcase will include examples of student scholarship and creativity from the five departments of the College of Arts and Humanities (Art, English and Foreign Languages, History and Philosophy, Mass Communication and Theatre, and Music) as well as from Mathematics and Computing, Psychology, Biologyand Physical Sciences.

"The Student Academic Showcase celebrates scholarship and achievement across academic disciplines and fosters a culture of student excellence," said Dr. Alice Taylor-Colbert, showcase originator. The showcase was launched two years ago by the College of Arts and Humanities and has grown to include outside departments.

"The showcase is designed to reward gifted students for their scholarship, to help them learn how to professionally present their work, and to help faculty enhance the academic experiences of their majors and minors," Taylor-Colbert said.

During the event, students will present samples of exceptional scholarly work completed during the 2012-2013 academic year. Examples of works include, but are not limited to: written papers; literary reviews; evidence-based projects; poster presentations; musical and oral projects; scriptwriting; and theatrical and audio/visual works.

Exhibitions and judging will take place Monday through Wednesday, in various rooms on campus. Presentation times will be announced and will be open to the public. Awards for top scholarship will be presented Thursday, March 21, at 7:30 p.m., in the Josephine B. Abney Cultural Center Auditorium. Awards will be given for best presentations in several student categories.
