Amy Blackwood holds a master of music in collaborative piano from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she studied with Jim Douglass and Andrew Harley. Blackwood has performed under composers and conductors including Carter Pann, Joel Pucket, David Dzubay, Frank Ticheli, and H. Robert Reynolds. She has worked with artists such as Stepan Koutnick, Theresa Ehrlich, David Erlich, Nathan Gunn and Alan Smith. Blackwood has also performed in many collaborative recitals with students at UNC Greensboro, UNC School of the Arts, and members of the Winston-Salem and Greensboro Symphonies.

For six years, she was the pianist for the UNC-Greensboro Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band. She has toured with the Wind Ensemble throughout the eastern and southern United States, with performances at the Strathmore in Bethesda, Maryland, the national CBDNA conference, and the ABA conference. She recorded two commercially available recordings with the UNC-Greensboro Wind Ensemble: 'Premieres!' and 'Fireworks!' In 2007, Blackwood successfully auditioned to be a member of the National Wind Ensemble, culminating in a performance at Carnegie Hall. Blackwood has also performed internationally as a participant of the 2010 Ameropa chamber music festival in Prague.

Not limited to classical music, Blackwood is a versatile pianist, frequently performing in the styles of musical theatre, pop, and jazz. In fact, she has served as rehearsal pianist, assistant musical director, and performance pianist for over a dozen community and professional musical theatre productions in North Carolina. As a classical accompanist, she has performed as a collaborative pianist at the Interlochen Summer Arts Camp and at the UNC-School of the Arts Summer Vocal Arts Program. Additionally, Blackwood served as the Director of Piano Activities from 2010 to 2011 at Chatham Hall Boarding School in Virginia. In the fall of 2011, Blackwood began her appointment as the full-time staff accompanist at Lander University in Greenwood, SC, where she works with singers, instrumentalists, and choral ensembles. She also coaches chamber ensembles and serves as coordinator for Lander's Chamber Strings Ensemble.
