Christin Moss, of Williamston, finished at the top of her graduating class in December, qualifying her for Lander's prestigious Thayer Award, presented on behalf of the family of Dr. Henry K. Thayer to the graduating senior achieving the highest scholastic average.

Lander University will discontinue its operations at the University Center of Greenville, effective July 31, 2012. Although Lander will no longer offer classes at the University Center of Greenville, this change will not have a negative impact on any student program schedule as Lander classes may be taken online, through directed independent study options, or on the Greenwood campus. Lander faculty and staff are committed to helping students reach graduation, and a clear path has been charted for Lander's University Center students to graduate as planned.

Lander University associate professor of music Dr. Robert Gardiner, who leads the Lander University Jazz Ensemble, makes no secret of his admiration for jazz great Duke Ellington, and Ellington's signature tune, "Take the 'A' Train," will be among the highlights of the jazz ensemble's spring show.

The Thursday, April 12, concert by Lander University's Wind Ensemble, scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. in the Josephine B. Abney Cultural Center Auditorium, will feature English folk songs.

Lander University will be the location of a disaster drill testing the emergency response capabilities of the university and the state’s Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC). The drill is scheduled for Tuesday, April 10, from 3:45 to 6 p.m. Rodney Boyter, Lander’s director of safety, said the disaster simulation will center on the release of a biologic agent on campus. The drill is part of the Cities Readiness Initiative of the Federal Centers for Disease Control, which responds by dispensing antidotes and antibiotics to a metropolitan area that has been subjected to a bioterrorist attack.

Lander University Police and the State Law Enforcement Division announced tonight that two arrests have been made in the assault case that occurred on campus Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at a campus housing apartment complex, Bearcat Village.

Dr. Chuck Neufeld said there might be a surprise or two when Lander University's two major choral ensembles stage a concert titled "Serious Nonsense," on Tuesday, April 10, at 8 p.m., in Lander's Josephine B. Abney Cultural Center Auditorium.

When Semi retired, he found out that he wasn't being "put out to pasture," at least not entirely. Semi is one of more than two dozen horses at Lander University's Equestrian Center in Greenwood and, like many humans, he is proving that retirement can be a busy and fruitful experience.

Lander University's spring dance concert will honor former assistant professor of dance Carol Neubner with a performance of her dance, "The Runners."

The fourth annual Peace Studies Conference gets under way at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 29, with a "hunger banquet" and presentation by Lander University assistant professor of economics Alan Green, who will share his thoughts on the subject of "World Poverty and Inequality."
