Two members of Lander University's equestrian team came home winners after competing in the 40th Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) finals, May 2-5. Emma Wolfe and Jennifer Lovvorn were among an estimated 400 riders from across the country who qualified for the championship events held at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, Pa.

Lander University's Bearcat therapeutic riding program held its annual horse show recently, an event that drew 18 riders and a large cheering section made up of family and friends who came out to show their support.

People who have raised or grown up around horses agree that they can be good teachers who offer humans valuable lessons about life and everyday living. Students in a special education class at Emerald High School in Greenwood are finding that out firsthand at Lander University's Equestrian Center, where their interaction with horses is helping them improve their life skills.

Students in Lander University assistant professor of art Doug McAbee's advanced sculpture class recently installed seven "sensory sculptures" along the therapeutic riding trail behind the Burton Center.

Morning skies were overcast and temperatures were in the mid-30s, but the cold did not chill the enthusiasm displayed at the Jan. 26 dedication ceremonies for the newly covered arena at Lander University's Equestrian Center.

Lander University's equestrian team will host an Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) competitive event on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 27 and 28, at the Equestrian Center on Hwy. 72/221. Shows will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. on Sunday. They are free and open to the public. This will be the third year Lander has been the site of the competition.

Lander University's equestrian program made impressive gains in the 2011-2012 academic year, and coach Mary Hughston Weaver is proud of the progress the team showed in only its second full season.

When Semi retired, he found out that he wasn't being "put out to pasture," at least not entirely. Semi is one of more than two dozen horses at Lander University's Equestrian Center in Greenwood and, like many humans, he is proving that retirement can be a busy and fruitful experience.

Riders from 14 colleges and universities and two alumni divisions competed when Lander University's Equestrian Center hosted its second annual Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) event on Nov. 19. The schools are in IHSA Zone 5, Region 2. The two-day show featured 19 different competitive events.
