The Lander University Alumni Association and Greenwood Tower Club invite the public to attend this year’s Alumni Music Fest on Sunday, Aug. 28, from 5 to 8 p.m. at The Cabana at Grand Harbor in Ninety Six.
Music will be provided by the "BearcatDaddies," a group of local players which includes Shawn and Shane McElrath, Brad Anderson, Jake Bartley, Ashby Stokes, Robby Cox, Ronnie Goldman and Eddie Bailey. The lineup also includes Lander associate professor of music Dr. Robert Gardiner, a saxophonist who leads the Robert Gardiner Jazz Quartet and directs Lander's Jazz Ensemble.
The event, sponsored by Gunnells' Marine; Kat Finkbeiner; M & M Tire — Glenn and Debrah Miller; Drake, Drake and Associates; and Mark and Lori Holcombe, is a scholarship fundraiser. Proceeds will benefit the John and Jayne B. McElrath Music Scholarship and the Lander Alumni Scholarship Fund.
Tickets for this year’s Music Fest, which again will offer hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar, are $20 each. Current Greenwood Tower Club members receive a $5 discount on the ticket price. Orders can be placed by calling the Lander Alumni office at 864-388-8351.
Lander assistant alumni director Debbie Dill encouraged motorists to arrive punctually, as Grand Harbor is a gated community, and the gate will not be manned for the full three hours of the show. She extended a special invitation to residents of Grand Harbor, as well as lake-dwellers in general, and said that boaters are welcome.
Lander alumni director Myra Shaffer said she looks forward to "a fun evening on the lake that also gives back to this university."
